The Final Boss
Gannon, the Prince of Darkness, faces Link in the final chamber of Death Mountain from the original Legend of Zelda.
As an ’80s kid, few things were more important to me than Legend of Zelda. I was Link for many Halloweens and I often created “dungeons” out of couch cushions and blankets around our house. Hyrule was a constant source of inspiration for drawings which continues...

Hiccup's Treasure Map
Hiccup has found a map that he believes will lead to a rare treasure. After hours of hiking through a snowy tundra, they approach a dark forest where, according to the map, the treasure is buried. Hiccup reassures Toothless that everything will be fine but the dragon has his doubts.
Wanted to draw a scene with Toothless and Hiccup on an adventure in a winter setting. I had hoped to finish...

Walt Disney World 2010
I realized that I STILL haven’t posted about our trip to Walt Disney World. So instead of sitting down and trying to write one now, I’m hijacking 27’s post on his blog about it:
My sister was scheduled to visit me and Tsao between her school semesters with her girlfriend, so in a last minute decision, Tsao and I decided to surprise them with a trip to Walt Disney...

And so it begins...
Little Link could never understand why this kid seemed to be addicted to giving him crap. He’d build a beautiful sand castle on the shores of Lake Hylia and BOOM - it gets knocked over. He had his ocarina smashed more than once coming home from band and his lunch rupees stolen almost every day since they met. He hated this little punk more than anything in Hyrule, but he knew one...

Conquer Yourself
Fanart of Link and Dark Link from Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This was one of my favorite parts of the game and I’ve really loved the Dark Link/Shadow Link character since his inception in Link’s Adventure.
Here’s my take on the epic battle against yourself. Oh how frustrating this fight was until I busted out my Megaton Hammer. ;)

The Creation of Mario
Shigeru Miyamoto creates Mario in a parody of Michelangelo’s “Creation of Adam” from the Sistine Chapel.
Oh boy! What a journey on this drawing. I was joking with my best friend around about doing a drawing like this and after a few ideas of doing classic game characters in well known masterpieces, we came up with this crazy idea.
I know there’s quite a few inaccurate...
May-June Updates
It has been an exhausting month. My sister visited for a week and the day after she left, William’s sister arrived. So for three straight weeks, it has been a non-stop adventure. I’ll break up my post and start with Jackie’s visit as a separate topic.
Jackie arrived at the end of May to the exceptionally hot and muggy DC weather. We played some billiards and arcades over at the Rockville...

Runamuck Festival 2010
I did the Runamuck Festival again this year with a few friends. We were entered in the costume couples race which started around noon and the temperature was around 90F (perfect for a mud race). My partner and I went as the Tortoise and the Hare and our other team went as the Run Away Brides. They actually went to the thrift store and bought wedding dresses! Here we are before our race:

Hiccup and Toothless
Wrapped up another How To Train Your Dragon drawing over the weekend. I hadn’t planned on a second work on this topic but it was hard to resist. Since this was so much fun, I am considering doing a “companion” illustration similar to this to my current Naruto work and then again to the proposed Legend of Zelda fan piece I’ll be starting in May. Despite the simple...

And some details:
I also decided that I’m going to cosplay as Hiccup to Otakon this year :D! A friend from work is going to help me with the clothing and I hired someone to create a Toothless plush that I can carry while...
Misc Updates
With the horrible spring heat wave finally over, I’ve been able to get back to my How To Train Your Dragon drawing. Our management hasn’t enabled AC yet and I can’t sit in front of my monitors in 80+ degree weather. With the cooler temperatures, I spent the day working on the Toothless portion (here’s an update):
I’ve also enabled a WIP thumbnail on my...

2010 CES Highlights

2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas
William and I attended the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show last week in Las Vegas.
Our work requested for us to go out and see the new technologies and exhibits for inspiration that we could then translate into our current interior design projects. The convention is the largest of its kind and reveals the projected consumer electronics that will release through out the year. The amount of...

Backpacking Shenandoah National Park - 2009
Went backpacking out in the backcountry of Shenandoah National Park. We had some nice weather considering it had rained all week leading up to the trip. Saw quite a few animals and a lot of great views. Here’s a photo of me from the summit of Stoney Man peak:

Mint in my Nose
Some neat stuff I did this weekend that robbed me of sleeping in: Saturday I volunteered at Pyramid Atlantic to work on the Peace Mural that will be displayed along Georgia Avenue (near my favorite Indian restaurant!). There was a huge turn out of volunteers and the organizers were very nice. It was a non-traditional mural that was broken up into pieces and worked on inside (which was...

Race Updates
Army 10 Miler in Washington DC on October 4, 2009. My first 10 miler. This was a beautiful race that went by DC monuments and historic places starting and ending at the Pentagon. The weather was perfect and there were a lot of Army displays including the Golden Knights parachute team and a low fly by of four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters right over the starting line. Awesome. The race was nice...
Gauley River 2009
Gauley River in West Viriginia on September 26, 2009. Once again, Jamie, William and I went out for the fall release of the Gauley River. This monster rafting trip includes five class V rapids and over 100 water features. In the photo I am sitting on the left side of the boat holding the paddle above my head. William is behind me and Jamie is behind him. We are diving away from Pillow...

Startled
In a vast field on an unusually warm autumn day, a small cat napped after a long morning of hunting voles. His dreams were suddenly cut short, however, by the pounding steps of a nearby dragon.
The cat, frightened beyond belief, saw no other option but to arch his back and let out a hiss as felines usually do. The unsuspecting dragon jumped back and gasped. Like most dragons his age, he...

Wrap Up - Otakon 2009
Otakon 2009 has come and gone! We had a great time this year and had a lot of positive response at both our table and in the auction! I’m pretty exhausted from the convention so I wont go into tiresome detail but there was some fantastic artwork in the alley this year. I wish I could have left my table more often to speak with other artists but I did manage to run up and down the...

Escape from Suliman
Fanart of my favorite scene from the Studio Ghibli film Howl’s Moving Castle - the confrontation and escape from Suliman. I thought this was a great turning point in the movie and an amazingly beautiful scene with so many fantasy elements to it.
I changed out some details. We can pretend that the Witch of the Waste is there somewhere hiding behind Howl. Also, I decided to draw Sophie in...

Artist Alley - Otakon 2009
I will be an exhibitor at the Artist Alley this year at Otakon 2009! I’m looking forward to being at the convention again this year and being able to share my artwork. I do not know where my table will be yet, but when I find out I will be sure to update this post. Please come visit me!
This year I will be selling 8x10 and 11x17 inch art prints at my table. I will be showcasing my own...
BurningGates.com and TsaoShin.com
I’m happy to inform everyone that both the Burning Gates and TsaoShin.com are now open! These sites replace my old website, The Broken Ladder. William and I have been keeping the entire project a secret from everyone for a while now simply because we have a good track record of telling people our ambitions then never realizing them. We figured this would be a really great surprise and...
